Elizabeth Onyango - The founder and principal
The Cardinal Newman School in Coventry supports The little Angels School.
The Little Angels School in Shanzu, Mombasa.
The little Angels School was opened in 2005 by Elizabeth Onyango to cater for the many children who could not afford to attend the local government school. Many of the children are from one parent families and a growing number are orphans. The school buildings are made of timber and corrugated iron which makes it hot in the dry season and a muddy in the wet season.
There are about 300 children aged 3 to 11. There are 7 classes each with a qualified teacher and, wherever possible, a classroom helper.
Each child has a well balanced meal, which for many is the only meal of the day.
In 2009 a well was dug and an electric supply installed to provide the children with clean drinking water. The well also provides and income as it is one of the only wells in the village providing fresh rather than brackish water. The school sells water to the rest of the village.
